10.11.2022 - All 17 locations of the Zühlke Group have reached carbon neutrality for 2021.
Zühlke has become carbon-neutral retrospectively by 2021.
This was achieved by calculating the carbon footprint in the individual branches and locations and compensating these emissions.
“This is an important milestone for our decarbonisation activities that we have been building up in the last years”, commented Christoph Broecker, Head of Sustainability of the Zühlke Group.
“Understanding the current situation is just the beginning,” adds Silvan Stich, Lead Project Manager for Zühlke Switzerland. “But that’s not where we stop: In the next step, we want to completely reach net-zero emissions in the long term.”
To become carbon-neutral, Zühlke partnered with planetly by OneTrust, an agency supporting companies in their transition to a net-zero economy. They helped calculate Zühlke's CO2-emissions and provide an analysis for focus areas, as well as pointing out practical ways for the company to start reducing emissions. Also, planetly by OneTrust made suggestions for compensating the CO2-emissions, says Jana Tietz, Climate Action Specialist: “We are delighted that we could support Zühlke in reaching this important milestone. It’s impressive to see the commitment of this company when it comes to sustainability.”
For Zühlke CEO Fabrizio Ferrandina, carbon neutrality is only one step of many: “Besides reducing our own footprint and supporting initiatives at group and local level, we see the most potential to have a positive influence in supporting our clients to envision and create a sustainable future. Sustainability is something you can achieve best together, so in this world of accelerated change, this is where we can have the biggest impact for a better future.”
Zühlke has committed to reach "net-zero" emissions according to the strict requirements of the science-based target initiative (SBTi). This is part of the company’s engagement within the "Business Ambition for 1.5°C" initiative. Fabrizio Ferrandina: „It is not enough to only stop what we have caused as a society in the past. We must turn the tide and undo the harm which is why as long-term strategy Zühlke is committed to become net-regenerative.”
