Cargo Sous Terrain: Sustainability vision and goals for groundbreaking logistics

Cargo Sous Terrain aims to build a sustainable and reliable logistics system. Zühlke supported the development of pioneering sustainability goals for a logistics solution of the future.

The project at a glance

  • Cargo Sous Terrain (CST) aimed to develop a sustainable and reliable logistics system for Switzerland.
  • Together with Zühlke’s expertise, the organisation wanted to sharpen its sustainability vision and define concrete goals.
  • As a result of the collaboration, CST could incorporate sustainability in its day-to-day business and drive its vision.

Cargo Sous Terrain was looking for a reliable partner to realise its vision of an underground, digital logistics system.

Sustainability lies at the core of Cargo Sous Terrain (CST). The organization wanted to develop a sustainable and reliable logistics system. To support this goal, a tunnel network was proposed in Switzerland to move as much freight traffic underground as possible. During the planning phase, CST addressed the demands of investors, customers, and authorities.

Having already conducted multiple sustainability analyses, CST then collaborated with Zühlke to establish concrete sustainability goals in line with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.

Interviews in all divisions secure buy-in from the outset

To define these goals, representatives from various business areas were interviewed about their sustainability ambitions. They were also consulted on their desired outcomes and what they considered to be crucial stakeholders for the strategy and reporting process.

In a dedicated workshop, these insights were used to collaboratively develop a sustainability vision as well as identify core sustainability themes and objectives.

Strengthen ‘sustainability’ USP and establish identification

As a result of this pragmatic and collaborative approach of consulting stakeholders and facilitating discussions, CST was empowered to further embed and enhance its unique selling proposition: sustainability. The process integrated diverse expertise and stakeholder requirements while incorporating best-in-class approaches.

Key stakeholders were involved from the beginning of the strategy development process to ensure their buy-in and alignment with the sustainability strategy.
