Recycling app for residents The city council of the Swiss town of Aarau was looking to adapt its mobile app to include information about various waste disposal services. The new app will be available for download from Google’s Marketplace and Apple’s App Store. Users will receive reliable information about upcoming disposal dates via push notifications, depending on their home address. They will also have the option to read up on local waste disposal regulations and find locations for waste disposal and recycling. Rapid development of the new solution The plan was to discontinue the existing solution before the end of the year, hence the urgency. Within a short space of time, Zühlke provided the Aarau city council with a Mendix expert who, in close coordination with the project management, implemented an initial version of the new solution. The key to success was the close and efficient cooperation between all parties, both on-site and virtually. This meant that the requirements could be defined, the solution implemented, and initial feedback received within just ten working days. The app will be adjusted in stages with further functions to meet new requirements. The Mendix platform made this rapid development possible, and thanks to its cross-platform capability, the app is now available from both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Marketplace. The use of the Mendix platform keeps maintenance to a minimum. With the new app, the city is offering its residents an important digital service in the area of recycling and providing reliable, personalised information about relevant disposal dates.
